ASHBURN, VA, OCTOBER 1, 2016 — Harmony, Incorporated, an international organization of female a cappella singers specializing in the barbershop harmony style, has announced that Christina Lewellen has been named International President. The Winchester, Va., previously served as VP Education and Director of Communications on the International Board of Directors, a leadership body elected to represent Harmony, Inc.’s membership on a wide range of business matters and issues.

“This an exciting time in Harmony Inc.’s history, which spans more than five decades,” says Lewellen. “We rely heavily on the talents and expertise of our volunteer leadership to thrive as an organization, and I’m honored to be leading the charge of such a stellar group of women. Serving on the International Board of Directors is a great responsibility, but it also lends itself to great rewards. Being named International President is, indeed, the greatest reward.”

Lewellen has been a member of Harmony, Inc. for six years. She is a member of Bella Nova Chorus, based in Ashburn, Va. and has served in a variety of leadership positions at the local level. In addition to serving as Bella Nova’s first chapter president, she is also the tenor of Epic, Harmony, Inc.’s 2012 International Quartet Champions. She participates in the hobby with her husband, their children, her parents and her sister.

“Barbershop harmony is a part of my family—so many of the wonderful people I’ve met through this organization have become like family,” Lewellen says. “Having the opportunity to serve in the positions I have is honestly the least I can do to give back to the organization that has given me so much.”

When she is not engaged with the barbershop harmony hobby, she works as an association executive for a global professional association based in Washington, D.C.

Harmony, Inc. celebrates and preserves the barbershop harmony style, which traces its musical roots back to the turn of the 20th century. Today, barbershop harmony singers not only celebrate the classics, but also put their own spin on contemporary songs as well. For more information, visit HarmonyInc.org.

Charter Party!

We are beyond excited about our upcoming chartering party! We are now an official chapter of Harmony, Inc., which means we have a lot to celebrate as we ring in the new year!

We are welcoming Harmony, Inc. President Jeanne O’Connor to the Washington, D.C., region to be an important part of our weekend celebration. On Saturday, Jeanne is coaching Epic in an open event called “fishbowl coaching.” The goal is to invite the audience behind-the-scenes to experience a quartet coaching session and learn from the best. So much of what Harmony, Inc. and Bella Nova prides itself on is education so we wanted to make sure we take advantage of the most talented female barbershoppers in the country while she’s here visiting with us!

On Sunday, the big party goes down! During our afternoon rehearsal, we are inviting friends and special guests to join us as we install our first Board of Directors. Epic and some other special quartets (both male and female) are planning to join us to help celebrate with Bella Nova. Click the links above if you’re interested in joining us… we’d LOVE to see you there!

Stay tuned for more pics of our special chartering event!

We are official

In late October, we were officially chartered by Harmony, Inc.! This was quite a complex process that included having a minimum of 18 members (we had more than 34) and completing a bunch of paperwork and providing documentation. We have bylaws. We have standing rules. We have an interim board. We are official!!

The first few months of the existence of Bella Nova have truly been pretty magical. Our rehearsals have been surprisingly productive. Brand new barbershoppers and experienced barbershoppers are standing shoulder-to-shoulder under the direction of Richard Lewellen and we’ve already fallen into lock step in making some beautiful noise together.

As we head to Harmony Inc.’s International Contest & Convention (IC&C) next week, more than a dozen Bella Nova members will be in attendance. We’re looking forward to bonding with our Harmony, Inc. sisters!

We are energized about kicking off what’s sure to be an incredible journey!

Planning to join us?

Oh c’mon. We know you want to! Don’t be afraid to come out of the shadows and let us know that you’re flirting with Bella Nova. We don’t blame you. The whole thing is pretty cute, huh?

If you’re serious about checking out Bella Nova, consider filling out our Membership Intention Form. It’s not an iron-clad commitment or anything. After all, what if Richard Lewellen is SO MEAN that you can’t stand him for one more minute (he’s not!)? And what if Epic is so snobby that they NEVER let you wear their crowns at rehearsal (baahhaaaahaaa… we actually think crown sharing is good karma)?

We know you’re going to love the Bella Nova energy. We know this because YOU are going to be a part of creating it! If you’re lurking in the shadows, let us know so we can continue to communicate with you, and most importantly, give recognition where recognition is due for our founding family members.

Check out our FAQs and don’t hesitate for a second to reach out with any other questions you may have. We can’t wait to meet you, sister.
